  • Bhutan officially the Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlocked country in South Asia. Bhutan is divided into twenty dzongkhags (districts), administered by a body called the Dzongkhak Tshokdu.
  • In South Asia, Bhutan ranks first in economic freedom, ease of doing business, and peace; second in per capita income; and is the least corrupt country as of 2016.
  • Bhutan maintains diplomatic relations with 52 countries and the European Union, but does not have formal ties with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. It is a member of the United Nations, SAARC, BIMSTEC and the Non Aligned Movement.
  • Bhutan’s currency is the ngultrum, whose value is fixed to the Indian rupee and its economy is one of the smallest in world and has grown rapidly in recent years.
  • The industrial sector accounts of 22% of the economy, which include production of ferroalloy, cement, metal poles, iron and non-alloy steel products, processed graphite, copper conductors, alcoholic and carbonated beverages, processed fruits, carpets, wood products and furniture.
